Heat, smog warnings issued for southeast Netherlands with temps to hit 35 degrees

The Netherlands can expect a very warm and mostly sunny Saturday to kick off the weekend, but it will likely heat up in the southeast of the country to what some would consider an uncomfortable 35 degrees Celsius. The Dutch meteorological institute, KNMI, issued a Code Yellow weather warning for the province of Limburg from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Popular outdoor music festival Pinkpop will draw tens of thousands of people to Landgraaf in the province.

FDF wants to block highways and visit the minister's home more often

The Farmers Defense Force (FDF) plans to take strong action against the Cabinet’s new nitrogen plans. This includes, among other things, “shutting down the food supply with a delivery stop and blocking highways in Natura 2000 areas,” said FDF leader Mark van den Oever in an interview with de Volkskrant. “It is also possible to go to Schiphol. We are building it up and continuing until it is finished.”

Dutch man gets 11 years in prison after extorting 13-year-old Spanish girl

A Dutch man has been sentenced to 11 and a half years in prison for extorting a 13-year-old Spanish girl to send him pornographic content. He threatened to show her family and friends the sexual videos she had sent him if she did not keep sending them, according to Spanish newspaper La Voz de Galicia.

At least 175 asylum seekers from Ter Apel get shelter in four municipalities

Shelter has been arranged for at least 175 asylum seekers in the overcrowded application center in Ter Apel in four different places for Friday night. The asylum seekers have been placed in locations in Beuningen, Alphen aan den Rijn, Monnickendam and Haarlem, reports a spokesperson for the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA).

Skydiver critically injured in parachute accident near Hilversum

A skydiver made an emergency landing in a Nieuw Loosdrecht residential area on Friday evening after he was unable to steer during a jump. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries from the crash, De Telegraaf reports.
