Logistics companies wary of farmers' protests; NS introduces new intercity train

The Cabinet is allocating extra money for plans to prevent young people from committing crimes, Legal Protection Minister Franc Weerwind announced. The funds consist of 18 million euros this year, rising to 61 million euros structurally per year from 2025, he wrote in a letter to the Tweede Kamer.

The NS introduced the public to a new version of the intercity train in Rotterdam on Saturday, developed by the French manufacturer Alstom. The train has a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour and, thanks to the extra drive, accelerates faster than usual trains on the high-speed line. “Which comes in handy in the small Netherlands with relatively many stops,” the NS said.

Up to 162,000 young people in the Netherlands are at a high risk for getting sucked into drug crime –– as many as one in eight young people in especially vulnerable areas. After analyzing figures, RTL Nieuws found that the highest-risk neighborhood is Helmond-West in Brabant, with 13.7 young people in danger of becoming drug criminals.

The Cabinet has taken a first step to introduce road pricing by 2030. It has opted for a “simple system” in which the motorist is only charged on the number of kilometers driven, said Infrastructure Minister Mark Harbers.
